This weekend Tracy & I will be at the Buy Local Art & Gift Show at the Kalamazoo Nature Center. It is the first year either of us have done this show, and we are both very excited. I do love local shows, and I love to buy from local artisits.
You're probably going to see a lit of this gif. It just makes me giggle.

Thankful
I am thankful today, and every day, for my friends and family. I could have survived this year; but life is to be lived, not merely survived. I cannot thank all of you enough for all of the love and support you have given me this year. You gave me a shoulder to cry upon, gave me big, squishy hugs, dragged my ass out of the house when I didn't want to leave, let me stay in when I really needed to, hatched the evilest of plans (and realized none of us look good in prison orange), fed me a good stiff drink (or three) when I needed it, and most of all, made me laugh my ass off. Thank you all for the light and laughter you bring to me.

Dreamer of Impossible Dreams
I'm sure most of you who read my blog also read Lori Anderson's Pretty Things blog. The only thing better than her jewelry is her writing. She is warm, compassionate, and easy to relate to.
I firmly believe in openly and honestly talking about mental health issues, especially depression. Her post today is Where Lao Tzu and I Battle Depression. It joins this post from Hyperbole and a Half and this post from The Bloggess as my favorite thatisbrilliantdamnIwishIcouldexpressmyselfthateloquently posts about depression.
My favorite line from her post today is: "Ironically, being depressed does NOT mean I'm not enjoying my life - it's just a little harder to." This sentence sums up how difficult it can be to explain the complexity of depression to people, especially those close to us. Sadly, sometimes we never can, no matter how hard we try.

I Love Halloween
I have been making beads and jewelry in preparation for the holiday shows, but I am having so much fun decorating for Halloween. So no pics of my recent work, but here is the AWESOME zombie gnome I bought from this guy:
If he didn't weigh close to 15 pounds, I would probably carry him around like a baby.

And Not So Sassy...
I love Halloween.
I have had a sinus headaches for four days now.
Here is one picture for both of those statements.

Feeling Sassy and Sparkly!
I gave them my own twist and added multiple eyes, and you can't see it, but this fish (as most of mine did) had a butt.
This is the fish I bought from Ofilia:
See the similarity? Neither do I. :) My point is, great art and great people make you you want to strive for more, to do more, and to be a better you. What is great art? For me, it is something that stimulates and makes you think. What is a great person? Someone who smiles at you (and doesn't look for the exits) as you babble on about your divorceandyouroventhatburnseverythingnomatterthetemperatureandhowmuchyouveadmiredherworkforoversevenyearsandyouaresogeekedtomeetyou...

Why Buy Art?
This weekend I picked up the 2012-2013 West Michigan Art Guide (ah, if only I had time and money...). On one of the pages they have an article, Why Buy Art? This (along with why buy handmade) is something I try to stress with friends and strangers alike. Here are a few of the reasons that I can relate to the most:
- Transport you to other places
- Inspire your creativity
- Change your attitude for the better
- Bring beauty joy and conversation into your life

Beads of Courage Challenge this Saturday!
This Saturday I will be in Brighton, MI, at Stanesa Glass Studio for the first annual National Bead Challenge. Beads of Courage is an arts in medicine program for children with serious illness. The good news is that the program has expanded to over 140 hospitals around the world. The success comes at a cost, however, as they are in great need of beads.
No problem - we're on it! This Saturday, 8 glass studios around the U.S. (not to mention hundreds of lampworkers in their own home studios) will participate in creating beads for over 6 hours that day. Also at these events, there will be Sponsor Beads for sale for only $5.00; Sponsor Beads are fun beads and special notes of encouragement are written to be given with that bead to an ill child.
If you are on the east side of the state, please stop by and support a great cause.

BSBP - The Second Reveal!
It is time for the second phase of this Bead Soup Blog Party!
My partner is JuLee Wolfe of The Polymer Penguin. She makes beautiful polymer clay beads - hop on over to her blog and check her out!
JuLee sent me an amazing array of beads; my brain about exploded at all of the goodies!
First and foremost, please realize that her beads are more amazing in person; I recently moved and unpacked my camera and put it in a safe place so I could find it later when I needed it. Well, if anyone is aware of where my safe place is, please let me know. feh. These pictures were taken with my phone.
The first necklace I made with her 'corn on the cob' beads. I love the bumpy texture of these beads, and I wanted all of them in the forefront. I chopped up two sterling silver ball chains for the necklace part and patinaed them in liver of sulfur. I rubbed some of the patina off, and the ball chain complements the corn beads.
The second necklace I created with the steampunk focal. I wanted something a little different, so I affixed a clasp to the backside, strung silk ribbon through the "top" of the focal, and created a choker necklace. She sent several coordinating beads for the steampunk focal, and I originally had them on this choker. It was too cluttered and I like the simple choker resting in the hollow of my neck.
Lastly, I created a long necklace with her domino floral bead. Simple and feminine. Two things I am not, lol, so I will wear it when I am trying to be one or the other.
Thanks for stopping by!!! Please check out today's reveal participants. It seems like a long list, but one can never have enough bead porn. Ever.

My partner is JuLee Wolfe of the Polymer Penguin! She creates some beautiful polymer clay goodies. I cannot to see what we send each other!
I've been unpacking my jewelry studio because I really, really need to beat things with a hammer. I meet the gas guy tomorrow to discuss installing my gas line so I can set things on FIRE!

Hottest day of the year so far....
so I decided to assemble my new lawnmower and mow the jungle in my yard.
A few things I should point out:
I am 40-something and I've never mowed a lawn before. I used to be deathly allergic to mowed grass, and by the time I discovered Allegra, I was married to XDH and he did the lawn.
I often forget to eat before undertaking physical tasks.
It is 93 and humid.
I have never claimed to have good judgment.
So, I only finished the front yard. Man-o-man, that is the crappiest mow-job I have ever seen, lol. At least it isn't a foot tall any more...
I was going to update my show schedule, but damn, I'm tired. I am going to enjoy my Oberon and veg.

Back At It
2012 has sucked, for lack of a better word; a family emergency that consumed January and then DH moved out in February and became XH in May. No creative energy when simply getting out of bed and minimally functioning in society took up so much energy. I'm in my new house and in a new city (well, city next to childhood city, so it is familiar).
I'm going to get back into lampworking and jewelry design, and I cannot wait to be creative again. I've worked on getting my life going in a new direction and now I want to work on ME. I signed up for the next installment of Lori Anderson's Bead Soup Blog Party. They are always so much fun! Plus, Lori is pretty neat herself. :) Back in May she sent me a doodle page with the following note:
"for when I get bored". lol That right there put a smile on my face. I've spent the past four days unpacking and cleaning and putting things away. Today I unpacked this letter Lori send me and my new coloring pencils. I sat down and turned off my brain (not too difficult, really) and attempted some scrollwork.
